Week 5 in Mr. Houck’s class, by Carly Eggers

Every week one student in our class gets to sit out the super quiz and write the weekly update on our class.  This week’s update was done by 7th grader Carly Eggers.  Thanks, Carly!

This week in Mr. Houck’s class we started studying the Fertile Crescent, and this fun game that has to do with Mesopotamia. It is going to be this really fun game where we all fight for the area we want on the board.

We also heard a short but funny story called ‘Luck.’ It is about how this guy and his friend go to college together and they take this class. It is a French class, and the guy teaching it is reading poems in French to the class.  The narrator gets called up there to read a poem in the middle of the year. Now his friend is always unlucky and he is always the lucky one, but in this story it is switched. When the unlucky one gets called up to read the poem, he just sits there and they skip him.  So now we are writing humorous stories this week and sharing them to the class.

This week, we learned 14 new vocabulary words. We also learned how to take notes faster. We watched a total of three videos about Mesopotamia. The first one, Mr. Houck paused and wrote the notes down on the overhead just so we could get used to it. The second video, he paused it for us so we could have a second to write it down, the last one was harder because the video never stopped and we had to write faster. But it helped us learn how to write notes down faster.

We also just started this new read-aloud book called ‘The Big Empty’ by J.B Stephens. It is a good and inspiring story.
