CSD website update: October 12 @ 10 p.m.

There will be three updates to the CSD website’s platform code, scheduled to occur Wednesday night, October 12 (tonight) at apx. 10 p.m.

  • Risk: these are low to moderate-risk updates and installations
  • Outage: none –this update should not impact your ability to work on the site
  • Service(s): WP Media Tags / W3 Total Cache / Google Analytics for WordPress (details below)
  • Scheduled: 10/12/2011 @ apx. 10 p.m. PT

WP Media Tags
Installing Version 3.0.5 (low risk)

This plugin will provide the ability to tag media/photos/attachments via a new set of Media Management screens. This will make media files easily sortable and manageable (especially for CSD site admins)

W3 Total Cache
Installing Version (moderate risk)

This is a powerful performance tool designed to improve the speed and user experience of the CSD site. Once installed, the plugin will enable caching and compression of files, which will result in faster page response times. Specifically, this tool will add browser, page, object and database caching as well as minify and content delivery network (CDN) integration.

Google Analytics for WordPress
CSD has version 4.1.3 installed. Updating to 4.2.2. (moderate-low risk)

This plugin enables us to use Google Analytics with the CSD site, adding several features for tracking website use. This update fixes OAuth issues caused by other plugins that don’t check for the existence of a specific class. The entire plugin is Namespaced to prevent further issues. Additionally, this fix includes update 4.2, which includes Google Authentication for OAuth. The requests have become signed as an extra security measure and tokens have become more stable, as opposed to the prior tokens used with AuthSub. Also added support for cross-domain tracking.
