Corbett students had a great showing in their first tournament ever, Saturday October 8 at PDX Fencing in Beaverton, Oregon.
Five Corbett students participated in the tournament which included competitors from Oregon Episcopal School, Alliance Charter Academy, and PDX Fencing. Seventh grader Gustav Baur took third place in his age group. Fourth-grader Jake Knight (who participates in fencing at PDX Fencing) took fifth place in his division. Our three high school competitors, Garrett Anderson, Spencer Gilbride, and Benjamin Morrison, managed to score more than 20 points against a much more experienced field of high school participants. Most of our students have been fencing for less than a month, while some of their competition have been at it for three years or more.
The next amateur tournament will be held January 7, 2012.
Fencing Session 3 still has a few openings for interested high school and middle school students! The session will run Monday afternoons November 7-28, 3:456 to 5pm in the Grade School Cafeteria. Registration forms are available in the Middle School/High School Office. Learn the fine points of saber-style fencing, join in fencing themed games, and practice for future tournaments. Cost is $60 per month, all equipment is provided.
Corbett Fencing classes are taught by Coach Aaron Kandlik who has a wealth of experience teaching in the Portland metro area and nationally.
