CSD website update: October 20 @ 10 p.m.

There will be two updates to the CSD website’s platform code, scheduled to occur Thursday night, October 20 at apx. 10 p.m.

  • RISK: there are two high risk updates
  • OUTAGE: 2 hours – See details below
  • SERVICES(S): See details below
  • SCHEDULED: 10/20/2011 @ apx. 10 p.m. PT

In our efforts to maintain and enhance the services available via the CSD website, our Internet team is continually implementing discreet changes to our Web platform. While most of these changes are invisible to our communities, we are scheduling some more significant maintenance that will require the CSD site to be offline for a short period.

To this end, we have scheduled maintenance of our Web platform beginning this Thursday, October 20 at 10 p.m. PT, scheduled to end at midnight. This update will feature a variety of changes designed to enhance performance of the website (e.g., speed and access).

Specifically, in addition to some changes to how we cache content on the server and client side, we are also making big changes to the CSS (cascading style sheet) files so we can serve up Google fonts without using a plugin (which we use now). Once we do this, we will be able to utilize caching services that are designed to speed up the site. The result of this work will also mean fewer calls to Google’s service through a plugin, which will make the site perform better.

Please note that performance will be most improved by visitors who are not logged in –staff who login will experience slightly slower response times while logged in. Top performance will occur when you’re logged out.

During this maintenance window, access to district-wide news will still be available at this page. Access to district-wide teacher notes will also be available at this page. Staff members will also be able to access the site during this time and add/revise posts. Publishing services (e.g., email, SMS, etc.) will also remain active during this maintenance window.

Our goal is to ensure a quality experience for website visitors. We appreciate your patience during this maintenance window. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments about this maintenance, or any other related issue.
