Last week we began our timed multiplication tests. Every Monday and Wednesday students will have 3 minutes to complete 60 multiplication facts. We started with 2 facts and already have 21 students successfully move onto 3s. Students can use their multiplication table for a practice fact sheet on Monday and use Wednesday’s fact test to advance to the next number without a sheet. Once the entire class has completed through 12, we will celebrate with a party. We anticipate being able to celebrate as a class in February. Students should take their multiplication tables home to practice. Flashcards are also a very helpful tool in learning multiplication facts. If you are interested, please let me know and we can get some flashcards for your student.
We also started class poetry last week. Students will select, practice, memorize, and recite a poem every two weeks. Poems will be recited on reading journal day (your student will know what that day is; if you want to know your child’s day, please contact me and I can let you know her/his schedule individually).
This week is conference week. Reminders were sent home last week. If you are unable to make your time, please let me know as soon as possible. While in the building for conferences, please check out our great art! Megan N, Sadie’s mom, shared a wonderful project with us on Thursday and our name skeletons are now on display in the hallway. We also have our texture montages up.
Just a reminder about math: any lesson not completed in class should be completed at home. Lessons should be corrected daily in class.
