Last Thursday we had our first Battle of the Books against Mrs. Handy’s class. While the competition was tough and quite knowledgeable, we were able to score 22 points to Mrs. Handy’s 17. This is our off week so we are all busy reading more battle books and quizzing each other with questions written by classmates.
Just a reminder: our first of three upcoming field trips is tomorrow. Please send your child to school ready for some time in the rain. If you are signed up to chaperone (or would like to come tomorrow), please arrive at 8:15a am.
The next field trip is Tuesday, May 1st. We are still looking for chaperones for this walking trip of Portland bridges. We will be leaving at 8:30 and returning to school at 3:00. Please come ready for a day of walking in rain or (hopefully!) sun.
Our final field trip is Thursday, May 31st. The chaperone limit was quickly met so we are set for chaperones. Thanks to everyone who volunteered!
Our bridge unit is underway. We are using bridge vocabulary and identifying bridge components from various bridge types. The field trip tomorrow will reinforce our new knowledge as we look at arch, beam, and truss bridges in the Gorge.
After a few weeks of reading non-fiction articles, we started a new novel this week. We’ll be reading The Westing Game until the end of the year. Ask your student what they think so far.
