Week of March 4th

What a gorgeous day today! I’m really ready for spring now!

We were very fortunate with the weather on Tuesday for our excursion. Though rain was forecast, we only got sprinkled on. All of our intrepid hikers managed to climb the hill to the top of Multnomah Falls. We enjoyed a rest break near the bridge across the creek, and then started back down again. After a quick lunch on the bus, we reported for duty at Rooster Rock State Park. The kids partnered up and planted one hundred spirea seedlings, which will shade out the invasive reed canary grass and provide habitat for birds and small animals. We also spotted lots of elk tracks, a beaver dam, and several tunnel entrances to the beaver lodge.

Thank you to our hardy volunteers who braved the cold, mud, threat of rain, and uphill climb. We appreciate your help.

Back at school on Wednesday, our class participated in World Math Day. Millions of kids around the globe signed on at various times during the day and were matched with two or three other students. Each group then competed to correctly answer the most math questions in one minute. Three strikes (errors) and you were out. Most of our class played for 20-30 minutes in the afternoon, and some even continued at home. Our Corbett students answered a whopping 3029 questions correctly! Way to go team!

This morning, we engaged in a science inquiry project. We attempted to determine which adaptations were the most effective in staying cool in a hot environment and also which adaptations worked well for keeping warm in the polar zone. Ask your child to explain our experiment and share the results.

Everyone has reading to do this weekend, and most have math to complete as well.

Remember to change your clocks ahead one hour this weekend!
