Welcome back! We’re hard at it once again, reading, writing, and doing ‘rithmetic! As we enter the home stretch (Only eight more weeks to go!), please be sure that your child is reading each day, learning weekly spelling words, and completing daily math lessons or other unfinished assignments. It’s definitely not the time to lose the good work habits that have been developed.
We have started reading books in a series about the Parker family’s adventures in some of our national parks. Don’t be surprised if your child starts nagging you to plan a vacation to his/her favorite location. I expect each student to read two of the books, but several students are already on their third episode. We will have informal debates about the best park and then everyone will write persuasive papers to try to convince their readers to visit that special place.
Several students memorized the Preamble to the Constitution over the break, and recited it to the class earlier this week. Excellent! We then identified the focus of each of the seven articles of the Constitution and are now learning of the duties of each branch of government. Today, we tried to match the philosophy and traits of our class with those of a Founding Father. Many of the kids wanted to try it again, so here is the website: http://constitutioncenter.org/foundersquiz/
HELP NEEDED! Our class will participate in the jogathon on Thursday, April 11th, from 3-3:30 p.m. in the grade school gym. It is the biggest fundraiser for our PTA. Please remind your child to gather pledges, as the money earned is used for technology, projects such as the gorge hallway mural, musical instruments, etc. We also need parents to mark laps at each corner and encourage our joggers. Let me know if you can help out.
Be sure to check out the flyer for the Friday Arts and Science Enrichment classes that was sent home today. Registration is due April 8th. There are scholarships available.
Don’t miss Donkey Basketball on Thursday, April 18th, at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. It will be preceded by a spaghetti dinner in the cafeteria. Both events are sponsored by CHAMPS, and will raise funds for the senior all night graduation party. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for advance tickets ($8 adults, $6 m.s. and h.s. students, $4 g.s. students). Prices at the door are a dollar more per ticket.
Please save 2 liter bottles for us. We need several for our rocket design project at the end of May. Thanks!
