Week 33 by Ethan Dentler

This week in Mr.Leone’s class we took it upon ourselves to fill out  a nutrition log this entire week. The task was pretty simple really. All we had to do was fill out a log about what we ate this entire week. Putting things in the spaces such as; tacos on Tuesday, and steak on Sunday. We also did a web quest on nutrition. We looked at different sites in order to find out things such as; what is a complete protein, and what is an incomplete protein.

We are also doing our post civil war reconstruction papers. We picked out topics from the reconstruction era and wrote a persuasive paper on them. Using the principles of an argument such as; a main claim, sub claims, and counter arguments. I personally did a persuasive paper on Tunis Campbell, and St. Catharines Island. We also have been doing some free writes this week. We did them on topics like; a law has passed that we need to shift more time into studying for our state test. P.E., music, choir, and electives are not required anymore. We can only save one of the four, which one would you save and why? These free write topics have really gotten us thinking about how we spend time at school.

Our class has recently finished reading our read aloud book “Star Girl”, by Jerry Spinelli. It was a very interesting book about a boy named Leo, and how a girl named “Star Girl” changed his life. It is set in the town of Mica, in the state of Arizona. A lot of this book takes place in Mica High School, and is told through the perspective of Leo. Leo is your average high schooler whose life is changed when a new student comes to Mica, calling herself “Star Girl”. Star Girl is not your average teen. She sings and dances, has a pet rat named Cinnamon, and loves to help people out. It is a very great book to read.

Last week we went on a field trip to the beach, to learn about oceanography. It was an interesting trip and was a lot of fun. We went to a local beach and helped clean up over there, and had some fun over there when we finished. Later on we reached our camp site by the name of Wi-Na-Ma. While over there we also had our spring dance, which turned out to be a total success! The next day we had science labs. We broke up into groups and did science experiments on things like; water pressure, how pollution reaches the ocean. We also made sand sculptures on the beach at Wi-Na-Ma. Overall, it was a pretty nice trip. Also as a reminder we have an annual trip to Wild Horse coming up in three weeks. All eighth grade service projects must be completed by May nine, and all   Cardinal Three stuff has to be done by May sixteen. Well thats what happened in Mr.Leone’s class this week!
