Fun, Friends, & Frida–Week 1 by Rizen Mayhew

Every week one student in our class gets to sit out the super quiz and write the weekly update.  This week’s update was done by 8th grader Rizen Mayhew.  Thanks, Rizen!

This week in Mr. Houck’s class we had a blast.  The first week of school is always the best, because you get to reunite with all your old friends and you have a lot of time to socialize since we don’t have much work to do. Also this week we spent quite a bit of time learning each other’s names. We played a variety of different games and fun activities to learn everybody’s names in the whole school.

The first week is always packed full of funny jokes and pranks pulled by teachers who are trying to make great first impressions on all the students. For example, this week Mr. Lutes (biggest, strongest man alive) wore a pink shirt with unicorns and flowers on it for the first day of school.

Although we did not have much work we still had some. We learned about Frida Kahlo and took a look at some of her famous paintings. We examined them and then the whole class helped each other out by pointing out interesting things they noticed about the paintings. One of the weird things in each painting was that she always would show two different sides of her, so we got to write a poem about two different sides of us. For example, I did how I liked country music and how I like hip-hop music.

Overall, I think this week was a great week, packed full of funny jokes and lots of social time. Next week, on the other hand, we will probably have a lot more homework and a lot less social time.
