To Buck Creek We Go! Week 2, by Isabel Rickert

Every week one student in our class gets to sit out the super quiz and write the weekly update.  This week’s update was done by 8th grader Isabel Rickert.  Thanks, Isabel!

This week in Mr. Houck’s class we had our first field trip to Buck Creek. We studied the health of the creek, and how much fresh water we humans have on the planet that is useable. The weather was perfect for the trip-overcast, but no rain. And it wasn’t too muddy, either.

We also started our world religions unit. We watched a video about Judaism and took a bunch of notes. In the video, we learned some of the important holidays and books in the religion, and the history of it. Mr. Houck says that we will be going on a lot of really cool field trips to some religious sites, for the religions we are learning about.

We also started a new writing project called Martian Postcard poems. You’re supposed to write the poem from the eyes of an alien, looking down at earth, and you have to describe some of the objects you see.

This week in Brainpop, it was about the Roman government, witch is kind of like our government. We also read a story called The Lottery. It’s about a small village with a ceremony called the lottery, when each husband from each family in the village draws a slip of paper, and whenever someone draws the slip with a black dot on it, their whole family has to draw a slip of paper. Whoever draws the slip with a black dot on it, gets rocks thrown at them until they are dead, as a sacrifice to make crops grow.
