Week of October 7th

We had an extremely busy week, including a few special events. Chief Phil Dearixon and several of our faithful volunteer firefighters visited our room on Monday. The kids learned about smoke alarms, the importance of having an escape plan, and also checked out the fire engine and rescue unit. If your family hasn’t discussed an emergency plan, please do so this weekend. You never know when it will be needed! Don’t forget to visit the fire station on Saturday for their Open House.

We also had Picture Day on Tuesday. No worries if you forgot about it; you can also order pictures at retake time.

We  began our EPals project on Monday. As I mentioned earlier in the week, we have been matched with classes in Lahore, Pakistan; Rajapalayam, India; Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada; Cartersville, Georgia; Mineola, Texas; and North Stonington, Connecticut. See if you can find them on a map! With the help of some of our skilled typists, all students posted introductions in our project workspace.

Please visit www.epals.com. Your child should know his/her user name and password – It is on a label attached to their green folder. Once on the site, go to our Jump Into EPals project. Check out the gallery for pictures of some of our partner schools and students. Also click on discussions, and then student discussions, to read what the kids had to say.

Many of our students are regularly coming to school late, and consequently not finishing their morning tasks. Please check with your child to see that he/she completed and handed in both cursive and geography puzzle this week. If not, it is homework and should be turned in on Monday.

I sincerely appreciate the effort of all of you who get your children to school on time, supervise homework, and/or volunteer in our classroom. Thanks so much!
