Room 12 News – February 13, 2014

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Missing Monday has put us a bit behind for our Natural Wonder Project.  It was originally due today.  We moved the due date to Tuesday, February 18.  We have really been trying to complete this project at school.  Each student has selected a natural wonder to learn about.  They have a RED folder that contains a graphic organizer and the assignment written out in detail.
Many kids chose to take their folders home to work on the project and sadly there are a few that did not.  We have spent time learning about how informational writers write and how important informational writer feel about research.  Each student also has a paper that helps them with their own self-revision.  We have talked about taking our writing from going from just telling facts to including examples, comparisons, definitions, etc.  This paper is also located in their red folder.
Students will also be responsible for speeches, which have been postponed until the week of February 24th.  We will spend next week writing speeches and then practicing them.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Tuesday, February 18th – Natural Wonder Posters Due
Friday, February 21st – SCHOOL
The week of February 24 – 27 – Natural Wonder Speeches and OAKS testing
Enjoy the four day weekend!
Michelle Dawkins About Michelle Dawkins

My husband and I have lived in Corbett since 1983 and I have taught at Corbett Grade School since 1994. Chris and I loved having our children grow up in the community of Corbett. They both received a great education and made many life long friends while attending school here. Both Steph and Joe graduated from Corbett. Joe is a graduate of Oregon State University and Steph has graduated from Linfield College and completed her MBA at University of Tennessee. Chris and I are extremely proud of our children! Both are enjoying life and share our love of nature.

"If a child is to keep his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in." ~Rachel Carson
