It looks as if spring may arrive after all! We are hoping to get out on the trail once it dries up a little more.
Progress Reports were sent home yesterday. I hope that they have all been delivered!
As unbelievable as it seems, we only have one week until break, and then another nine weeks of school after we return. Our team of intermediate teachers met to plan the last trimester, and we were stunned at everything we plan to squeeze in to these last precious days.
We are excited to officially announce that our two-night, three-day Journey through Time – Exploring the Evidence field study trip will be held from Tuesday, May 13, until Thursday, May 15. We will be staying at Delany Environmental Learning Center (ELC) in Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park in Coulee City, Washington. (http://www.parks.wa.gov/366/Camp-Delany). Delany ELC is equipped with bunkhouses and areas to camp, so no, we will not be sleeping on the floor of a gymnasium.
We don’t have exact times worked out yet. However, we do know that we will not be arriving back at school on May 15th until sometime between 4:30 and 6 PM. It’s important you keep this in mind as you will responsible for picking up your child from school that evening.
We are extremely excited for this amazing field study as it will be a tremendous opportunity for students to witness first-hand the catastrophic destruction the Missoula Floods caused between 15,000 and 17,000 years ago here in the Pacific Northwest.
Of course, you probably have many questions. On the survey we sent out at the beginning of December, we received an overwhelming amount of responses in favor of this field study. Some of you indicated that you needed time to think about this trip. Of course, we understand that you may have some hesitations and concerns about this trip, and we want to make sure that you have all of the details and information that you need in order to make your decision.
All of the necessary paperwork will be prepared and distributed in the weeks following Spring Break and we’ll be sure to answer any questions you may have. We will have a Parent Information Night on Thursday, April 3rd, where we will address all of the important information once it’s finalized. In the meantime, keep an eye out for further communications.
Here is the most important step that you need to take right now:
Let me know if you’re interested in being a chaperone for this trip. We need lots of parents to not only serve as group chaperones, but to help prepare food and materials for the trip, cook, and clean up. We’ll hash out all the details at a later date. For now, we just need to know who can commit.
Thanks so much,
SUE and the rest of the Intermediate Team
