Mrs. Wold and Mrs. Shaw Feb. 12

As you can imagine, we had a week full of anticipation as children asked us countless times which day and at what time we’d exchange valentines.  Thursday afternoon, they finally got to enjoy being buried in an avalanche of pink and red hearts and candy.  It’s always so sweet to see the kids trying so hard to read the valentines and thanking each other for the candy.

This week, we talked about how important it is to not judge someone by their appearance.  We read quite a few books in which characters jump to conclusions about someone and later see their judgment was faulty.  This applied to our gorge studies and how the Native Americans such as the Chinook and the people who encountered them were both guilty of making false assumptions.

We have an ambitious goal this month:  memorizing all of the presidents.  Please help your child by reading the first 30 with them over the weekend:  Washington Adams Jefferson Madison Monroe Adams Jackson VanBuren Harrison Tyler Polk Taylor Fillmore Pierce Buchanan Lincoln Johnson Grant Hayes Garfield Arthur Cleveland Harrison Cleveland McKinley

Kristin Wold About Kristin Wold

This is my 28th year teaching in Corbett. I am incredibly fortunate to have brilliant, energetic colleagues; creative, supportive administrators; and parents who over-whelmingly love partnering with the school to make the best possible opportunities for their kids. I have a great job.
Professionally, my passion is working with emergent readers. I strongly believe that our first priority in teaching reading is to get kids to love books. We need to introduce them to authors and topics they’ll love so they’ll seek out reading for pleasure.
Personally, I have been married for 30 years and have a 16-year-old daughter who attends Corbett. I enjoy traveling, hiking in the gorge, and studying Japanese.
