On January 26th, Corbett’s four math teams travelled all the way up to Vancouver, Washington, to Skyview High School. They competed in a series of math categories, from mental math to team multiple choice to competing against other schools to see who can get the correct answer. Despite the competition, Corbett snagged six individual trophies and placed in the top three in each grade!
For the sixth graders, there were a total of two Corbett teams that competed against 12 other schools and four people who placed individually. For each math category they take the best score from one of the three teams. Corbett placed first out of all the other teams, securing a place at the Masters competition in April. Mia LaFramboise from the main district, and Alex Davidici, Alexa Gentry, and Olivia McGrew from CAPS all took the #1-4 trophies.
In the seventh and eighth grade competitions, there was one eighth grade team composed of three seventh graders and one eighth grader. They placed second out of 22 schools and two people on the team placed individually. Ava Horton and Kate Hawley placed #3 and #4, respectively.
Altogether, it was a fun and exciting Friday for the math teams! The competition was hard, but Corbett managed to come up on top once again. We’ll be competing again next year in hopefully more competitions. We hope that more middle schoolers will join us next year!
