Corbett Charter Intermediate School (CCS Intermediate) consists in four remarkable multi-age classrooms serving students in grades four through six. These are Imaginative Education classrooms, and at the Intermediate level that means Romantic Understanding, with its focus on literacy. The cognitive tools related to Romantic Understanding include an increased concern with realism, with more complex story lines, the limits of human experience, revolt and idealism, humanizing meaning and the hero. This year’s Gorge theme is ‘People of the Gorge’, part of the three year cycle that also includes Natural History and Plants and Animals. Achievement in the intermediate grades is extraordinary.
