Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! Corbett Charter School (CCS) staff members spent hundreds of hours this summer preparing a truly remarkable experience for our students. Our Imaginative Education classrooms are going to astound all involved. A number of us attended the National Charter Schools Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, to keep abreast of the charter movement nation-wide. A half-dozen or so attended week-long Advanced Placement trainings for teachers, several traveled internationally (Central and South America were popular destinations), and the elementary and middle school teachers spent hundreds of hours writing curriculum for the upcoming year.
A number of high school students took advantage of our free Summer Math program, making up Incompletes, improving grades, or preparing to move an entire year ahead in 2011-2012. Many thanks to Lara Dunton for her weeks of assistance during the summer.
Last year’s successes are safely banked away…improved AP test results, making AYP again, record-high SAT participation rates. And over 90% of those who began last school year with us are back again! (We learned at the national conference that a 90% return rate is something of a gold standard in the charter movement!)
When Corbett School District experienced an unexpected need for a new teacher, CCS offered to make a new hire a year ahead-of-schedule in order to preserve class sizes in the high school building. We feel very honored and fortunate to announce that Zachary Goude, an experienced working scientist who did his student teaching in Corbett last year, has accepted a position with CCS. Mr. Goude will be teaching Advanced Placement Chemistry, Advanced Placement Chemistry Lab, and Algebra II. We know that the entire community will join us in welcoming Zach to the team.
