Room 15 News: 4/8-4/11

Hello Room 15 Families!  We had a BUSY week last week–we worked on lots of art projects, finished up our dinosaur studies, and started state testing!  Students worked on editing their Dinosaur Slideshows this week–you can see your child’s slideshow by logging into their Gmail account–let me know if you need the login information, they are so cool!
Here’s what’s coming up this week:

Smarter Balanced Testing: 3rd graders will continue their Smarter Balanced testing this coming week. We will be testing from 8:15-9:15am this week, so please ensure your 3rd grade students get a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast and are on time to school. Test scores are not available until testing has ended, but scores will be available by the end of the school year and sent home with final progress reports.

Reading Workshop:  This week we will begin a character studies unit called “Reading and Role Playing: Fiction, Folktales and Fairy Tales” where students will get the chanced to step into the roles of characters to really get to know how they feel and to learn the lessons that fiction stories teach.  We will read both fiction and folktales and fairytales–if you have any fairytale books you are able to lend our class for the next month, we would love to add them to our library and return them to you at the end of the year!
Writing Workshop:   This week we begin our final writing unit of the year called “Once Upon a Time” where students will be writing adaptations of classic fairytales and creating their own original fairytales–this will be a fun unit to end our year of writing!
Gorge Studies and Buddies:  Students completed their dino dioramas as the culminating project for our dinosaurs unit–students worked all week and presented their dioramas to our Buddies on Thursday, along with their Dinosaur Slideshow.  See the pictures of our proud presenters on Bloomz 🙂
This coming week we begin our final Gorge Studies unit of the year called “Building the Gorge”, in which we will learning about and mapping the geological history and the ways humans have innovated, moved through the Gorge, and built transportation systems along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.
Field Trips Permission Slips:  Your child should have brought home two permission slips for the final field trips of the year.  Please fill these out and send these in this week.  Chaperone space for the Jetboats is very limited, with priority given to those parents who send in the fee and permission slip first.  After our designated chaperone spots are filled, I will have a waiting list set up in case any spots open up.
I hope you have a great week, let me know if you have any questions about school or upcoming events!
Ms. DiMaggio
