Important things happening

Important things are happening at CHS in the world of career pathways that build on programs that have existed for years. In 2006, the Corbett Robotics program launched with 5 Lego Mindstorm robots. The next year the team participated in the MATE underwater ROV competition in Houston, TX and finished fifth in the nation. That same robotics team is operating today and is stronger than ever. Next fall, the robotics team will launch its fourth year in the FIRST robotics competition. With the support of our Boeing Mentor Josh Pigman, we’re getting set for our best year ever.

To support this program and expand the horizons of all students, parent volunteers, students, and staff are teaming up with Corbett’s robotics program to host a career and job fair on August 26th. This event is itself an important extension of earlier career education efforts created by Vanessa Knight involving visitations by college and military recruiters and last year’s “game of life” simulation. This time, a huge thank you goes to Lynde Wright. Over 20 employers from a wide range of institutions will be visiting, talking with students, and making classroom presentations about their organizations. Corbett’s newly revised Culinary Arts/Food Careers program will be providing breakfast for the participating employers. Students will spend the first hour in groups completing career interest surveys, familiarizing themselves with the employers attending, and drafting potential questions. The rest of the morning will be spent visiting with the employers and attending classroom sessions relating to career preparation. We’re anticipating a fantastic morning!
