Beehive Buzz Sept. 20

Greetings Beehive Families!!

We have had a lot of fun this week! We played in the garden, using the branches, leaves and flowers to create camouflage for ourselves. We also created some fun symmetry art that tied into our math lessons around symmetry. In reading we were working on rereading to smooth out our voice (comprehension strategies), and in writing, we are working on “adding on” to our stories with revision strips and stretching out words to help us spell.
We have earned out last warm fuzzy to fill our class “kindness” bucket. That means the kids have earned an ice cream party. If your child is intolerant of dairy, please let me know and I will get an alternative such as a popsicle.
Here are some important dates!
Jog-a-thon on Sept. 27th.  This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the school. Please consider reaching out on your facebook pages to friends and family to gather donations.  Here is a link where they can donate: www.pledgestar.com/corbettpta

We really need volunteers in order to have a successful event.

10:00am – 10:30 – Lieuallen
10:30am – 11:00 – Brounstein
If it is a nice day, we will all run together at 10am.

Picture Day Oct. 3rd – we need volunteers, if you have planned to chaperone the field trip that day, please consider staying after drop off and helping with our picture time.

We have a lot of projects that could use an extra set of hands (or more). We are in high need of volunteers the first week of October for class prep and projects. Please consider coming in and helping, but please shoot us an email in advance so we know when you are coming.

We still do not have any classroom volunteers signed up (except Marie-thanks Marie) to come in and help regularly. If your schedule allows, please consider coming in on a regularly scheduled time. This is so important to our kids as it helps us do more exciting and fun activities. The more help we have, the more we can do!! Here is the link to sign up:

Questions to ask your kids this weekend:
What is symmetry?
What is one way to add on to your writing?
Tell me about your reading mat?
Tell me about setting a reading goal and keeping track (post its and tallys).

Attached is our first collaborative art piece. We focused on color mixing and it was tied to our read aloud, The Dot.

Have a great weekend and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
