District Phone Conversion by Randy Trani

The Corbett School District will be changing digital phone service providers and all district voice numbers will be impacted. Existing phone numbers will work until June 13th, 2011. New telephone numbers will be live on June 14th, 2011 (approximately 3pm).

History

In 2009 the Corbett School District converted an aging analog phone system to the latest Voice Over Internet Protocol technology at an initial hardware cost of $23,000, which included a major switch upgraded for our network as well. Prior to the 2009 VOIP conversion, on average our monthly phone bill exceeded $2,200 a month. After the 2009 VOIP conversion, our phone bill has typically been between $1,000 and $1,100 a month. The 2009 conversion brought the district’s phone technology into the 21st century by streamlining telephone communications and adding a plethora of features.

Reason for Change

In the fall of 2010 it became possible to trunk our phone calls over our fiber network to a shared pool of digital phone lines used by many Multnomah county schools. Shared resources will save the district an additional $700/month on phone costs. The cost of our 100 digital phone lines will be reduced to less than $200/month with 24,000 pooled minutes a month of coast to coast long distance included.
