Dear Families,
Highlights:
-
We’re wrapping up our study of the first people of North America and started the presentation of information, worked on how to revise and edit using punctuation to help set the tone of our stories, started to publish our writing piece, started a flag football unit, had an earthquake drill, and practiced our new spelling words!
-
We met our Artist in Resident, Mrs. Flinn. This partnership is through the Right Brain Initiative. We are very fortunate to have Ms. Flinn work with us on Creative Dramatics for the next several weeks.
-
I’ve posted videos & photos on our class Instagram account. You can find it by searching: Mrs. Chiu’s Class or Click Here
Classroom Needs:
-
We’ll be celebrating our newest published writing with Mrs. Meadows’ class on Tuesday, October 23. I am hoping that there are a couple of families that could help us by getting juice boxes (50-55 boxes) & fun fall napkins (55) for our writing celebration. We’re looking forward to sharing our writing with peers. Would you let me know if you could do this for us?
Reminders:
-
Writers have spelling words! They will receive them on Tuesdays, practice at least twice during the week, then and be tested on the following Mondays. I have attached the words to this email (just in case the list did not make it home). Writers are tested on 10 random words from this list. The key is to look for word patterns/rules so that they are able to spell words that have similar rules and patterns. Spelling tests from this week were scored and returned to writers.
-
Readers have a home reading log to track their reading. They will fill it out when they read at home OR they can fill it out when they arrive at school in the morning.
Upcoming Events:
-
Picture retakes are Wednesday, October 24th. I sent new forms home with students that thought that they may get retakes. Hold onto the original photos and send them back in on that day for your child to take them again.
PTA: Jog-A-Thon & Box Tops:

The PTA is still collecting for the Jog-A-Thon, but are trying to wrap it up very soon. Our goal is for each child to raise $50 through donations. To donate online: www.pledgestar.com/corbettpta

Box Tops: The PTA is continuing to collect Box Tops for Education. A labeled jar is located in our classroom.
-
Try to join the PTA and participate in their meetings (corbettcardinalspta@gmail.com)
Enjoy the Weekend!
