Corbett School District will be starting the 2020-21 School Year in a Comprehensive Distance Learning Model for the First Trimester

Dear Families,

Our highest priority is the health and safety of our students, families, and staff.  Together, we have been facing difficult decisions over the last few months as we have learned more about the current health crisis and have received updated guidance from the state on the reopening of schools.  Today we received Community COVID-19 Metrics from the Oregon Department of Education which indicate specific criteria for reopening schools to any type of in-person instruction.  These metrics are based on science from top medical experts and developed to allow for in-person instruction in school districts located within counties that meet or exceed certain requirements.  The requirements are outlined below and show where Multnomah County’s metrics currently sit:

With this new information, Corbett School District will be starting the 2020-21 school year in a Comprehensive Distance Learning model for the first trimester (September 8th to November 19th) and will only be able to move to an on-site model once the metrics are met by the state and county.  We will review the metrics the first week of November to determine the instructional model for the second trimester.

Comprehensive Distance Learning will look different than it did in the spring.  We are committed to ensuring that our students, families, and staff have the resources they need to start the new school year with remote learning including the technology, internet access, supplies, meals, teaching instruction, training, communication, etc.  Please look for more information coming soon.

We know this is a difficult time for our families.  Together, we can fight COVID-19 by being vigilant in wearing face coverings, limiting our contact with other people, washing our hands, and staying home when ill.  By following these important guidelines, we know that we will once again be able to reopen our schools and welcome our students back into our buildings.  We appreciate your patience with this complex process.  We will continue to send regular updates to keep you informed, and we are always available for questions and comments as we navigate this new path together.
