Corbett SD Closed Thursday, January 29 Due to Illness

Cardinal Families,

I am writing to inform you that Corbett School District will be closed tomorrow for all schools due to a significant number of student and staff absences related to illness. This decision was not made lightly, but it is necessary to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff and to allow time for recovery and mitigation.

As a result of the closure, the home basketball games scheduled for tomorrow will be rescheduled. Additionally, the Winter Formal dance scheduled for Friday will also be rescheduled. More information regarding new dates will be shared as soon as it is available.

We are working closely with the Multnomah County Health Department and would like to share the following guidance for families.

If your child is ill:

  • Keep them home until symptom free for 24 hours and notify the school.
  • Follow Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) guidelines regarding when it is appropriate to return to school.
  • Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, such as water, juice, or sports drinks, or to eat popsicles.

Please contact your healthcare provider if your child experiences:

  • Symptoms lasting longer than three days
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • A fever greater than 103°F
  • Signs of dehydration, including dizziness, no sweating, decreased urine, or dark urine

For additional information, please visit the Multnomah County Health Department website. If you have specific questions, you may also contact your healthcare provider, your school nurse, or Multnomah County Health Department Communicable Disease Services at 503-988-3406.

To help prevent further spread of illness, please reinforce good hygiene practices with your child, including:

  • Washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and before touching their face. Soap and water are most effective; hand sanitizer is not effective against gastrointestinal pathogens.
  • Avoiding touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we prioritize the health and well-being of our school community. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any updates as they become available.
